PORTLAND, Ore.– Effective July 16, 2022 the nation launched a universal mental health crisis line. People can reach crisis support just like they do when they call 911 for emergency services. In Portland Lines For Life helps 37,000 people per year with a variety of issues. The non-profit is all for the change services can be reached far faster.
The person who needs help could be calling 988, or they might be calling for someone else. Either is acceptable and encouraged. Many of the phone calls 911 receives are related to mental health issues.
