PORTLAND, Ore.– The new form of Portland City Government is set to begin in 2025. Public Safety Commissioner Rene Gonzalez is the first City Council member to designate a Deputy City Administrator for Charter Reform. Mike Meyers former Portland Fire Chief and Community Safety Director was introduced Wednesday January 24, 2024 as the interim DCA for all of the city’s Public Safety Bureau’s. Those bureaus include Portland Police, Portland Fire, Bureau of Emergency Communications and the Portland Bureau of Emergency Management.
The mission for the current year for Mike Meyers is pretty straight forward and still complex : He has to show fact based progress in bringing Portland back to being one of the safest cities in America. He’s also charged with organizing a unified Public Safety Team by January 1, 2025.
Commissioner Gonzalez said on X, “Mike has previously led Fire, Emergency Management, and currently CSD and will be a reliable and knowledgeable steward for these bureaus as we transition to our new form of government.”
