An Amber Alert Ends With A Child Rescued, Two Women And The Shooter Dead

EUGENE, Ore. — The Amber alert was issued late Monday evening.  Many of us received the alerts to our cell phones.  Law Enforcement  was searching for 39 year old Elias Huzier. He was  suspected of killing his ex-wife, 17 year old girlfriend and kidnapping his 1 year old son in eastern Washington.  This triggered a multi-state manhunt. Huzier was found Tuesday afternoon following a police chase near Eugene.

Oregon State Troopers were able to rescue the toddler when Huzier lost control of his car and crashed into another vehicle after a high speed chase.  He died from a self-inflicted gun shot wound to the head.

In a press conference held Tuesday evening Oregon State Police said gunfire was exchanged between Huzier a former SRO officer and troopers. Nobody was injured.

“Roman is doing well and being cared for,” confirmed Captain Kyle Kennedy of the Oregon State Police. “All day, our thoughts have been how to rescue this young boy and we’re thankful for the outcome that occurred.”

The shooting and investigation shutdown I-5 South about eight miles north of Eugene that lasted a good part of the day.

Huizar was suspected of shooting and killing his ex-wife, 31-year-old Amber Marie Rodriguez, on Monday outside an elementary school in West Richland, Washington.  Court documents reveal Rodriguez, was an employee at the school.  She was shot several times in the head and torso.  Apparently, Huizar continued firing even after she fell to the ground. Huizar’s 9-year-old son said he saw his father shoot his mother. After the shooting, Huizar is said to have sped off in his car.

“There are no words to express how deeply saddened we are by the targeted domestic-violence incidents that took place,” Redinger said. “This is a tragedy nobody in our community should have to experience.”

The second body was found at Huizar’s home  later that day.  The victim was his 17 year old Girlfriend Angelica Santos.
