PORTLAND, Ore.–The National Weather Service in Portland says a strong atmospheric river is expected to impact Southwest Washington and Northwest Oregon Thursday night through Friday night. The storm is expected to bring widespread moderate to heavy rain to the area. (See the map for possible rainfall amounts.)
In addition, expect it to be windy. Winds could gust up to as High as 40 mph in the valley and closer to 50 mph at the coast. 60 to 90 mph gusts could happen in the highest part of the cascades. Likely above the 5000 foot level.
If you are planning to drive be sure to carry extra water, blankets, snacks, traction devices, flairs, a charged cell phone, tires inflated, etc.
